My name is Barry Hewelt and my academic field is American Literature and Language, and since I’ve always worked as an adjunct faculty at whatever school, it means I end up teaching lots of 100 and 200 level writing courses to freshmen and sophomores all year.
Since moving from Michigan and taking up residence permanently in New Port Richey, Florida, I joined Pasco Hernando State College in 2017, a fairly progressive school with 5 satellite campuses spread over several counties adjacent to the Gulf, and along with composition courses, I’m also teaching developmental reading and writing courses during the fall and spring semesters, PHSC’s heaviest enrollment during the school year.
It’s a wonderful life, and I feel rich beyond wealth. While the rest of the country is shivering through the frigid months, I’ll be right here, hanging out along the lovely Gulf, perhaps at Pine Island or nearby Green Key with my feet in white sand and warm ocean waters, soaking up rays in the sunshine state.
